A clinical study in a remote region of southwest Uganda has demonstrated the feasibility of using a health campaign to rapidly test a community for HIV and simultaneously offer prevention and diagnosis for a variety of other diseases in rural and resource-poor settings of sub-Saharan Africa.
<p>A perspective published in the <em>New England Journal of Medicine</em> this week by professors at UCSF and the Johns Hopkins University asserts that it is now possible to begin to end the AIDS epidemic by widely and strategically applying existing tools.</p>
<p>A declaration calling for global support to end the AIDS epidemic was announced on July 10 by the International AIDS Society, with key support from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).</p>
<p>The first U.S. meeting of the International AIDS Conference in more than two decades will be held later this month in Washington, DC, and Bay Area reporters got a preview of what UCSF researchers will present when they convene at the nation's capitol.</p>
<p>California is preparing to enact provisions of the Affordable Care Act by expanding Medi-Cal coverage and setting up a health benefit exchange. UCSF experts comment.</p>
<p>The Supreme Court ruling on the health care law is a "great opportunity, but it’s really only the beginning of what’s likely to be a very long journey,” said <a href="http://profiles.ucsf.edu/ProfileDetails.aspx?From=SE&Person=4574215">Josh Adler</a>, MD, chief medical officer of UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.</p>
