Faculty, staff, friends and supporters gathered Tuesday for the opening of the Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Building, the fourth research facility to open on the Mission Bay campus.
The opening of a new cancer research building tomorrow at Mission Bay represents the “manifestation of a vision our outstanding cancer specialists have been working toward for more than a decade,” says Chancellor Mike Bishop.
UCSF officially opened the Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Building on its Mission Bay campus today with a ribbon-cutting and open house highlighting a new vision for cancer research, treatment, and prevention.
The Multiple Myeloma Translational Initiative (MMTI) aims to promote collaborative research efforts and accelerate the transition of promising cancer therapies from the lab to the hospital.

The University of California, San Francisco, has named John D.B. Featherstone, PhD, as dean of the UCSF School of Dentistry. The appointment was approved last week by the UC Board of Regents and is retroactive to Sept. 1, 2008.
Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, MBA, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will address the issue of childhood obesity on Wednesday, May 21, as featured speaker in the UCSF Chancellor's Health Policy Lecture Series.
UCSF dermatologists will offer free screenings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 10 at the Castro-Mission Health Center in San Francisco.
The public is invited to undergo free skin cancer screenings conducted by UCSF dermatologists in recognition of National Skin Cancer Awareness Month.
Bernard Smith, who served on the UCSF School of Dentistry faculty for 17 years, died following his long battle with leukemia.
