This year, with the culmination of the yearlong 150th Anniversary celebration, it was all the more reason for 2,000-some UCSF alumni and friends from 34 states and six countries to return to their alma mater for their annual reunion.
UCSF won two international awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), including a “Grand Gold,” the organization’s highest honor.
To mark UC San Francisco’s 150th anniversary, the Alumni Association of University of California San Francisco (AAUCSF) is honoring 150 alumni of UCSF's four professional schools (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy), the Graduate Division, and training programs with an Alumni Excellence Award.
The first PhD graduate of the pharmaceutical chemistry department, Eddie Way, BS ’38, MS ’40, PhD ’42, had a long history with the UCSF School of Pharmacy.
Soon after graduating from UCSF, Jennie Chin Hansen, MS ’71, worked as a rural health nurse serving older adults in rural Idaho, long before the world was connected by cell phones or the internet.
“I’ve been lucky. I’ve been in the right place at the right time,” says Lloyd Young, PharmD ’69, of his outstanding 44-year pharmacy career.
Few professionally trained dentists were to be found in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where Hibret Hailu Benjamin, DDS ’02, was born.
Award-winning scientists, university chancellors, presidents of health care organizations, chief executive officers, deans of colleges, commanding generals: UCSF has a history of producing alumni who become leaders in the health sciences.
The extraordinary career of the MAA’s Alumnus of the Year
