More than 40 UCSF Scientists Are Among the World’s Most Cited
Forty-four UC San Francisco scientists have been named to the annual list of most “Highly Cited Researchers” for 2025 by the analytics company Clarivate.
The UCSF researchers’ impact spans biology and biochemistry, clinical medicine, immunology, microbiology, neuroscience and behavior, and the social sciences. About half were recognized for cross-field contributions across multiple disciplines.
Clarivate bases its ranking on journal article citations from the last decade. They represent roughly 1 in 1,000 of the world’s investigators in biomedical, physical, and social sciences research. This year, Clarivate designated 7,131 Highly Cited Researcher awards to 6,868 individuals.
In the company’s five-year institutional rankings, UCSF placed 21st globally among the top institutions for Highly Cited Researchers, averaging about 50 honorees per year.
