UCSF Bayfront Medical Building Had 129k Patient Visits in First Year
All-in-one care setting designed for convenient, patient-centered experience.
Since it began serving patients on August 28, 2024, the UCSF Bayfront Medical Building at Mission Bay has become integral to San Francisco’s health care infrastructure.
In its first year, Bayfront had more than 129,000 patient visits, and its clinical teams have provided nearly 15,300 primary care visits, more than 26,000 urgent care visits, more than 20,200 physical therapy sessions, nearly 7,800 outpatient surgeries, and more than 2,900 eye surgeries.
“We designed Bayfront according to the needs of our patients so they can easily manage most of their outpatient care in one convenient location,” said Inga Lennes, MD, MPH, MBA, president, UCSF Faculty Practice Organization. “Our goal was to provide a one-stop facility that would expand access to quality outpatient care in the city’s southern neighborhoods. After only a year, we’re delighted to see how this care center has been embraced by our community.”
Bayfront is San Francisco’s largest ambulatory surgery center, with state-of-the-art technology for procedures that don’t require an overnight stay. The facility offers primary and urgent care, 14 operating rooms for outpatient surgery, 15 types of specialty care, a radiological imaging suite, and a physical and occupational therapy gym. It also includes an onsite retail and compounding pharmacy, and a laboratory for blood draws. Other amenities include valet and garage parking, and a café.
Four of the 14 operating rooms at Bayfront are designated for ophthalmologic care, providing cataract and cornea surgery, laser vision correction and glaucoma surgery. Ophthalmology patients can also enjoy the ease of having their clinical appointments next door at the Wayne and Gladys Valley Center for Vision.
Medical specialty areas in the building include allergy; audiology; cardiology; dermatology; ear, nose and throat; endocrinology; gastroenterology; hepatology; neurosurgery; pain medicine; physical therapy and rehabilitation; pulmonology (interstitial lung disease); rheumatology; urology; and vascular surgery.
