MEDIA ADVISORY: UCSF Hosts Media Tour of New Cancer Building

What: UCSF Health is opening a pioneering Precision Cancer Medicine Building devoted to bringing together the leading science with patient-centered care to provide patients with the most advanced, personalized treatments. The new building, which will welcome patients June 24, will include programs focused on individualized care, as well as advanced therapies in immunotherapy, molecular tumor-profiling, innovative clinical trials and advanced imaging.

Background: The unique new center is part of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center in the San Francisco area, and of UCSF Medical Center, which is recognized as the best hospital for cancer care in California by U.S. News & World Report. Located steps away from a world-class cancer research center, the new building brings together top researchers, oncologists, surgeons and other clinicians – leaders in almost every form of cancer discovery and care – to foster new treatments and speed their delivery to patients.

Interview Opportunities/Visuals: The tour will begin with a 15-minute overview by oncologists and leaders in the building’s development, followed by a tour of the art-filled cancer building and interview opportunities with leading UCSF oncologists. A recent UCSF patient will be available for perspective on the importance of precision therapies in cancer care.
