Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo: Seeing Health as Social Justice

Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, MD, PhD, MAS is a general internist and cardiovascular epidemiologist whose research focuses on the interaction between social, behavioral, and biological factors that place individuals and communities at risk for poor health and inadequate healthcare. Her goal is to help improve health and prevent chronic conditions like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes in these vulnerable groups.

Kirsten is the Lee Goldman, MD Endowed Chair in Medicine and a Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She is the Director of the UCSF Center for Vulnerable Populations, a research center based at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. Kirsten is the Director of the CTSI Clinical and Translational Science Training Programs, a member of the CTSI Board, and a faculty member for CTSI’s K Scholar Program.

Most recently, Kirsten has been involved with SugarScience, a one-stop, scientific evidence-based website devoted to sugar and its impact on health. SugarScience gathers research focusing on diabetes, heart disease, and liver disease, with the goal of helping individuals and communities to make healthy choices.
