UCSF Chancellor to Celebrate Excellence in Education in Commencement Address
Speech to Congratulate Class of 2012 to be Webcast Live on April 24
UCSF Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann, MD, MPH, will celebrate excellence in education when she delivers her 2012 commencement address to be webcast live on Tuesday, April 24.
The UCSF community is invited to watch the live webcast, which begins at noon.
Desmond-Hellmann will congratulate the Class of 2012 for their remarkable success graduating from UCSF, the only graduate campus in the ten-campus UC system devoted exclusively to the health sciences.
UCSF's four professional schools – dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy – and its graduate programs consistently rank among the top in the nation, attracting the best, brightest and most diverse students.
Desmond-Hellmann considers education among her top five priorities as chancellor. Upon taking the helm at UCSF in August 2009, she recalled her own experience at UCSF as a resident. Read her message about education.

Since then, Desmond-Hellmann and her leadership team, the Chancellor's Executive Cabinet, set the goal to "attract and support the most talented and diverse trainees in the health sciences" as part of UCSF's 2014-2015 plan. Recently, this goal was updated with specific strategies and tactics that will be implemented over the next few years.
The chancellor will talk about some of these plans and the overall UCSF vision to be the world's preeminent health sciences innovator during her commencement address on April 24.
