WHAT:More than 200 young women from 20 San Francisco-area high schools will attend a special summit exploring issues that impact their health and goals -- including how to deal with stress, relationship violence, sexuality and birth control, and how to evolve into future leaders. The Young Women's Health Leadership Summit (YWHLS), sponsored by the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health in collaboration with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), was developed by a committee of young women for young women. The 9th annual event includes inspirational speakers and performance art. The conference theme is “Woman in the Mirror: Kindle Your Fire, Dream and Inspire!” Innovations in Young Women’s Health Award is a competition in which SFUSD high school students receive up to $2,000 and technical support to create and implement school-based projects that promote women’s health and wellness. This year’s winning projects range from plays that confront transgender phobia to deejaying workshops meant to encourage self expression. Student leaders will give a brief presentation on their projects at the conference.
