Veterans Health Research Institute Presents Brain at War Conference Today
The Veterans Health Research Institute or NCIRE will present “The Brain at War: Neurocognitive Consequences of Combat” today (June 17.)
The event will be held at the Commandant’s Ballroom, Marines’ Memorial Club and Hotel, San Francisco.
Two million Americans have served or are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, and related wounds of war affect not only the individuals who have been wounded, but families, peers, co-workers, communities, and our nation as a whole.
“The Brain at War” is the leading national conference on the neurocognitive wounds of these wars.
This year, the conference welcomes several distinguished guest speakers, including
- General James F. Amos, assistant commandant of the US Marine Corps;
- Brigadier General Loree K. Sutton, MD, director, Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury;
- James Kelly, director of the National Intrepid Center of Excellence; and
- Heidi Kraft, deputy coordinator, US Navy Combat Stress Control Program.
The conference also will include a writer’s panel including James Dao of the New York Times and AP correspondent Kim Dozier.
