Archive: UCSF Architect to Discuss Mission Bay on Nov. 16

Campus Architect Steve Wiesenthal, AIA, associate vice chancellor for Capital Projects & Facilities Management, will talk about UCSF Mission Bay before the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR) on Wednesday, Nov. 16. With three research buildings, a community center, housing complex and two garages open at the new campus, UCSF Mission Bay is rising at a pace faster than most expected. Wiesenthal will discuss the balancing act of coalescing pioneering scientists, distinguished architects, a strong master plan, community participation, university bureaucracy and a wild construction market into the core of San Francisco's largest redevelopment project since Golden Gate Park. Open to the public, Wiesenthal's presentation will begin at 6 p.m. following a wine and cheese reception that begins at 5:45 p.m. at the SPUR offices, located at 312 Sutter St., Suite 500, in San Francisco. SPUR is San Francisco's preeminent public-policy think tank. Through research, analysis, public education, and advocacy, SPUR promotes good planning and good government. A nonprofit organization, SPUR was formed in 1959 to fight for the revitalization of San Francisco as the Bay Area's central city.
