Laura López González is a web science writer for UCSF News. Before joining UCSF in 2023, Laura spent nearly two decades as a foreign correspondent covering global health from Johannesburg, South Africa. There, she headed up the newsdesks of the bulk of the country’s health news services. Her work has focused on access to medicines and health disparities and has appeared in outlets like Al-Jazeera, The Guardian, El Pais, and The New Republic. A Bay Area native, Laura holds a bachelor’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and a master’s in international relations from the University of Chicago.
