Give to UCSF<p>September is a busy month at UCSF, as the campus community comes together for the new school year.</p>
A protein called “clathrin,” which is found in every human cell and plays a critical role in transporting materials within them, also plays a key role in cell division, according to new research at the University of California, San Francisco.
<p>Neurosurgeon Mitch Berger will be among UCSF physicians and scientists appearing September 20 at Dreamforce 2012 at San Francisco’s Moscone Center, leading separate sessions that address one theme: “Innovating to Improve Health Outcomes.”</p>
<p>Pharmaceutical companies now have a guide — the UCSF-FDA TransPortal — to pre-clinical studies they should conduct to identify potentially harmful interactions between existing and new drugs that depend on how the drugs move into and out of cells through protein portals known as transporters.</p>
<p>UCSF’s Pre-Health Undergraduate Program offers undergraduate college students from the Bay Area and around the country a valuable combination of mentorship, classroom training and networking support with the goal of attracting them to careers in clinical and translational science.</p>
<p>UCSF has been working to turn the results of last year’s employee engagement survey into meaningful changes for staff.</p>
<p>Voters in November will be asked to decide on Proposition 30, an initiative that would raise new state revenue through temporary increases in the state sales tax and the personal income tax on those who earn $250,000 or more per year.</p>
