‘Three Minute Thesis’ Finalists to Go Head-to-Head

Nine finalists in UC San Francisco Graduate Division’s first-ever “Three Minute Thesis (3MT)” competition will compete against one another on Oct. 29 at UCSF Mission Bay. The top prize is $3,000.
The finalists, all PhD candidates, include Sama Ahmed, Neuroscience Program; Quinn Grundy, Nursing PhD Program; Laurens Kraal, Bioinformatics Program; Freeman Lan, Bioengineering Program; Alison Leaf, Tetrad Program (Cell Biology); Isabel Nocedal, Tetrad Program (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology); Laura Simpson, Biomedical Sciences Program; Ivan Vujkovic-Cvijin, Biomedical Sciences Program; and Chuchu Zhang, Neuroscience Program.
“Now that the 3MT competition is ramping up and we have our finalists, everyone in the Graduate Division is really excited to see who will win," said Elizabeth Watkins, PhD, dean of the Graduate Division and Vice Chancellor for Student Academic Affairs. "This event is a fantastic opportunity for us to show off our brilliant graduate students, and for the students themselves to share their passion for the research they’re engaged in."
A panel of five judges headed by Chancellor Sam Hawgood, MBBS, will choose the winner at a live event on Oct. 29 at Mission Bay. The competition begins at 4 p.m. Everyone in the campus community is welcome to attend. See the Graduate Division website for details.
