Dear Colleagues:

Today, I enthusiastically share with you UCSF's final Three-Year Strategic Plan. Last October, I presented our vision and five goals that were aligned with my five priorities (patients, research, education, people and business) and a set of strategies to reach each of these goals.

Since then, we have been working to identify specific enterprise–wide projects and initiatives to achieve each goal. This has now been completed, so I am able to show you the final plan available on the UCSF’s strategic plan website.

As you will see, this plan is enterprise-wide and reflects our top priorities for the next three years. There are many exciting, high-impact projects and milestones for UCSF, including these examples:

  • open UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay;
  • complete our new Long Range Development Plan;
  • launch a fundraising initiative for student aid;
  • develop an infrastructure to support a leadership position in bioinformatics and across all areas of research; and
  • improve the way that we develop, compensate, and evaluate our employees.

I thank my leadership team — the Chancellor's Executive Cabinet (CEC) — for their strong engagement and hard work on this effort. The CEC vigorously discussed and debated important trends in the health sciences environment that will shape UCSF's future, advocated for the leadership role that UCSF can and will play in that environment, and identified what we must do now to best position UCSF for success.

I especially thank five people who led the process, working with multiple constituents and stakeholders across UCSF to develop and vet specific tactics — Kathy Balestreri, Janhavi Bonville, Joe Castro, Angelique Loscar and Mike Tyburski — and also those of you who submitted your ideas through the 2014-2015 website.

The CEC will be tracking progress against these goals on a regular basis. I look forward to providing you with updates and to celebrating our achievements over the next three years as we continue to move closer to realizing our vision of being the world's preeminent health sciences innovator.

Best,
Sue
