UCSF Announces First Annual Sustainability Awards

The Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability (CACS) on March 30 has announced the launch of UCSF’s first annual Sustainability Awards for 2011.

The award will recognize staff, students, faculty, and green teams for their contributions to sustainability at UCSF, according to John Plotts and David Odato, co-chairs of CACS.

Members of the UCSF community are encouraged to nominate a green champion—staff, student, faculty, or a team who deserves recognition for their sustainability efforts.

The ideal candidate is an individual or team that has:

  • engaged the campus/medical center in an ongoing dialogue about reaching UCSF’s environmental sustainability goals;
  • gone above and beyond the duties of their position to integrate environmental sustainability into existing campus programs in education, research, operations, and public service; and/or
  • instilled a culture of sustainable practices among their peers.

The nominee must be employed or enrolled at UCSF or an affiliate of UCSF.

Nominators must specify the person or team that best fulfills the criteria. For details about the new sustainability award, go to http://sustainability.ucsf.edu/get_involved/sustainability_awards1 to download the award application.

Completed nominations must be submitted to Gail Lee, sustainability manager, at [email protected] by the deadline, April 22, Earth Day.

Winners will be announced at the Earth Fest and Bike to Work Day event on May 12. And they will receive an environmentally friendly award certificate, campuswide recognition and eligibility for a scholarship to the Annual Sustainability in Higher Education Conference to be held July 10 through 13.
