UCSF to Celebrate Contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr. Beginning January 14
UCSF will celebrate the life and legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., with a series of events that the campus community is invited to attend.
Kicking off on January 14th with a concert and reception featuring jazz saxophonist Jules Broussard at Cole Hall, the weeklong celebration will include gospel choir performances, a viewing of the MLK documentary “In Remembrance of Martin” and awards given to three members of the campus community for manifesting King’s vision of an inclusive, noble and equitable civilization.

Friday, Jan 14: Concert: UCSF will present a free concert and reception featuring veteran San Francisco saxophonist Jules Broussard, from noon to 1 p.m. at Cole Hall on the Parnassus campus. Broussard
Monday, Jan 17: Volunteer: UCSF encourages the campus community to embrace the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. and volunteer in the local community or participate in one of the Bay Area’s commemoration marches or events.
Tuesday, Jan 18: Film: UCSF will screen the PBS documentary “In the Remembrance of Martin,” a film that includes personal comments from family, friends and advisors who describe Dr. King’s leadership and career. A reception will precede the screening at 5:30 p.m. at Genentech Auditorium and Atrium on the Mission Bay campus. The film will screen at 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan 19: Film: UCSF will screen the PBS historical documentary “Prince Among Slaves,” a film that depicts a prince from West Africa who was made a slave in the United States and freed 40 years later. This film will be screened at Cole Hall on the Parnassus campus at 6 p.m. A reception will precede the film at 5:30 and complimentary popcorn will be served.
Thursday, Jan 20: Concert: The UCSF Gospel Choir will perform from Noon to 1 p.m. at the San Francisco General Hospital Cafeteria. Light refreshments will be served.
Tuesday, Jan 25: Awards: UCSF’s annual MLK Award Ceremony will honor three members of the campus community - one faculty, staff and student - for extraordinary leadership in promoting and advancing mutual respect, understanding and appreciation for all types of diversity at UCSF. The ceremony is from noon to 2 p.m. at Cole Hall on the Parnassus campus.
Wednesday, Jan 26: Concert: The UCSF Gospel Choir will perform from noon to 1 p.m. at the Mount Zion Hospital lobby. Light refreshments will be served.
