Chancellor Writes to UCSF Community About Van Accident

UCSF Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann reaches out to the University community about Wednesday’s tragic shuttle accident:

Dear Colleagues:
It is with great sadness I write to you about an accident that occurred yesterday involving one of our campus shuttle buses, at the corner of Geary Boulevard and Leavenworth Street, which resulted in the death of a 65-year-old pedestrian. UCSF is cooperating fully with the San Francisco Police Department in the investigation of this tragedy.
The UCSF community extends its profound condolences to the deceased woman’s family and friends.
Our thoughts also are with our shuttle driver, who has worked at UCSF for three years. He is on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation. Additional information about the incident can be found at www.ucsf.edu.
The confidential services of the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (415-476-8279) or the Spiritual Care Services program (415-443-CARE) are available to any members of the UCSF community who may need it, including those aboard the shuttle yesterday, the shuttle driver involved in the accident and his colleagues in Transportation Services.
We at UCSF have always drawn strength from each other and, at times like this, that sense of community is more important than ever.
