Donna Ferriero, MD, UCSF chief of pediatric neurology, has been appointed to the National Neurological Disorders and Stroke Advisory Council. The 18 member council, composed of physicians, scientists and representatives of the public, serves as the principal advisory body to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) regarding the Institute’s research program planning and priorities.

Part of the National Institutes of Health, NINDS is the nation’s primary supporter of basic, translational and clinical research on the brain and nervous system. Ferriero is director of the NINDS-funded Neonatal Brain Disorders Center and co-director of the Newborn Brain Research Institute at UCSF Children’s Hospital, which combines clinical and basic research on the mechanisms of injury and repair during brain development.
