UCSF to Host Faculty Information & Welcoming Week
All UCSF faculty are invited to the fourth annual Faculty Information and Welcoming Week, which will feature new workshops and networking opportunities at three campus sites from September 15 through 17, 2009.
The three-day event, hosted by the Chancellor’s Council on Faculty Life, the Office of Academic Affairs, and the Office of Faculty Development and Advancement, provides essential information relevant to all faculty, as well as an orientation to the University for new faculty.
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Eugene Washington, MD and Vice Provost Sally Marshall, PhD, will give opening remarks at the event on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Their remarks will be followed by a plenary session with short program overviews on the Academic Senate, research at UCSF, the UCSF library, the UC retirement system as well as supervising trainees.
This year, the schedule includes luncheon programs with site-specific information on advancement and compensation to be held at the UCSF-affiliated San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH).
A full-day event at Laurel Heights includes a plenary session, networking luncheon and workshops on several new and updated topics. All faculty members are invited to any or all of the following events:
- Luncheon program: Tuesday, Sept. 15, noon to 2 p.m., VAMC, Teak Room, Building 200, Room 1A-122
- All-day event: Wednesday, Sept. 16, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Laurel Heights Conference Center
- Luncheon program: Thursday, Sept. 17, noon to 2 p.m., SFGH, Building 3, Room 505
Faculty Information and Welcoming Week, sponsored by the Chancellor’s Council on Faculty Life (CCFL), is one of the ongoing initiatives to create a supportive work environment for faculty. To read more about CCFL activities, visit the Academic Affairs website.
New faculty members enjoy conversation and refreshments during the 2008 faculty event at UCSF.
Recommendations to provide a more supportive work environment for faculty and staff are also a significant part of the UCSF Strategic Plan, which was unveiled in June 2007. The strategic plan, a guide for UCSF’s growth and development for the next decade, calls for developing effective mentoring programs for all at UCSF and for grooming and promoting the next generation of UCSF leadership. More information about the strategic plan is posted on the UCSF Strategic Plan website.
