New Ad Campaign Promotes UCSF's Cancer Expertise
A new, web-based ad campaign launched by UCSF Medical Center aims to increase awareness of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, a world leader in cancer research and care.
The promotional campaign will run on the online New York Times on an intermittent basis through mid-July.
“The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is now the highest-ranked cancer center in California, surpassing both Stanford and UCLA, all within the past year,” said Mark Gelhaus, marketing director of UCSF Medical Center, who cited a recent survey by U.S. News & World Report. “The objective of our advertising campaign is to raise awareness of our cancer expertise among prospective patients as we expand our services into new, state-of-the-art facilities.”
That expansion includes the June 2 opening of the Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Building at UCSF’s Mission Bay campus, which will more than double the existing laboratory space in buildings exclusively devoted to cancer research.
In addition, the state-of-the-art UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay – scheduled to open in 2014 – will include a specialty hospital devoted to cancer patients.
The new, animated ad will define UCSF’s expertise through four statements:
- This year 1.4 million people in the United States will develop cancer.
- Just 40 cancer centers are qualified to call themselves comprehensive.* *Designated by the National Cancer Institute
- And only 1 is ranked the best in California.* *As ranked by U.S. News & World Report

Viewers may then click on a link to the medical center’s cancer clinical services webpage, which contains detailed information about UCSF’s services and resources.
