UCSF to Offer Emergency Preparedness Briefings on Oct. 21
Every UCSF department, division and unit/lab is encouraged to take one small step toward emergency preparedness on Tuesday, Oct. 21, when the city of San Francisco will sponsor Shake Up SF, a citywide earthquake drill, at noon.
In support of Shake Up SF on Oct. 21, UCSF will offer two briefings on UCSF emergency preparedness at:
• Parnassus campus, noon to 1 p.m., School of Nursing, room N 729
• Mission Bay campus, 3 to 4 p.m., Rock Hall, room 102
The briefings will outline efforts underway to enhance the University’s emergency preparedness and response. Volunteer opportunities for staff, faculty, students and trainees to become part of UCSF’s emergency preparedness program will be identified.
“Your participation in Shake Up SF can be as simple as getting more informed about emergency preparedness,” says Christopher Jones, associate director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management with the UCSF Police Department.
See this flyer (pdf) for suggestions on how to prepare for an earthquake.
Suggested activities in addition to those listed on the Shake Up SF flyer include:
• Review your Emergency Action Plan (EAP) with your staff.
• Visit the American Red Cross emergency preparedness online course in the “Are You Ready?” section of the UCSF Police Department Emergency Management website. Take the course, enter the UCSF code and receive a 20 percent discount on Red Cross emergency preparedness kits.
• Update your department/unit/lab emergency notification tree.
• Check to see whether there is a yellow Campus Emergency Procedures wall chart in your work area. If not, post one.
• Ensure that all employees have a white “UCSF Police Emergency Information” wallet card.
• Visit the AlertSF Notification System website and register for citywide emergency warnings.
• Attend one of the briefings on Oct. 21 and learn about the upcoming UCSF WarnMe personal emergency warning system, campus emergency response teams, care and shelter operations teams, ham radio operator teams, and other measures being developed this year.
However you chose to participate, please complete and email the Shake Up SF “Yes, I Plan To Participate” form to [email protected] with a copy to [email protected].
