UCSF Releases Budget Process Overview and FY 2008-2009 Budget Reports
Senior Vice Chancellor Steve Barclay today released two reports designed to give the campus community an overview of the UCSF budget process and the proposed 2008-2009 budget.
"The UCSF Strategic Plan challenged the finance department to 'establish a regular and transparent campuswide process for planning, budgeting and allocating resources,'" Barclay said in a [letter to the campus community (PDF 125KB)](http://budget.ucsf.edu/downloads/budget_letter.pdf). "Like you and many others, we've taken these strategies to heart, and this letter represents one of our first public steps toward making that strategy a reality."
These reports are part of an overall budget communications plan, which includes today's launch of the UCSF budget website. The reports, both available as PDFs, are:
* "[UCSF: A Complete Budget Process Overview (PDF 764KB)](http://budget.ucsf.edu/downloads/budget_process_overview.pdf)," which describes UCSF's budgeting goals and priorities, the sources and uses of funds, budget process and participants, recommendations for resource management, planning and allocation strategies, the financial environment, and an overview of the 2008-2009 budget year, and
* "[UCSF Updated Budget Overview (PDF 298KB)](http://budget.ucsf.edu/downloads/budget_overview.pdf)," which describes the proposed 2008-2009 budget and initiatives of the Executive Budget Committee. This report is for those who are already familiar with the UCSF budget process and want to review plans for this fiscal year.
"We assure you that this package of documents is the first in a series of many more," Barclay said. "Our hope is that through this process, everyone will soon understand the financial complexities and opportunities that lie ahead. In the meantime, we encourage you to explore the additional information we've posted on our new resource management, planning and allocation website."
