Nursing School Praises Stellar Staff Member
UCSF School of Nursing Kathy Dracup recently recognized assistant Fusaye (Fu) Kato as the recipient of the 2008 Helen Miaskowski Award for Outstanding Staff Performance.
Kato was nominated for her consistently superior performance as a staff member in the Department of Physiological Nursing since 1986. She has performed varied responsibilities with numerous National of Institutes of Health grants, from transcriptions of interviews to PowerPoint presentations and posters. Kato also has developed fiscal administrative skills.
Her commitment to teamwork extends beyond her own large and diverse team of project personnel. Kato is a steady supporter of the core staff of the department, which means that her customer service extends far beyond the scope of her position. She “gets the job done,” whenever and wherever she sees a need, her nominators say.
The nursing school received 13 outstanding nominations for this first year of the award.
“We are delighted with the overall excellence of all nominees, and so pleased that such an outstanding inaugural representative was selected,” said Zina Mirsky, RN, EdD, associate dean in the UCSF School of Nursing.

The award arises from an endowed program created from contributions made in memory of Helen Miaskowski, mother of Christine Miaskowski, RN, PhD, professor and associate dean in the Department of Physiological Nursing. The award was established to denote the importance of such staff to the mission of the University, and to acknowledge that these staff members’ contributions should be recognized.
