UCSF to Host Public Hearing on the Draft EIR for Mission Bay Medical Center
UCSF will host a public hearing on Tuesday, April 22, to solicit comments on the adequacy and accuracy of information presented in the draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the new medical center at Mission Bay.
The hearing is set for 7 p.m. at the UCSF Mission Bay campus in Genentech Hall Auditorium, 600 16th St., San Francisco. Multiple community meetings have been conducted on this project.
To provide written comments on the draft EIR, please write to UCSF Environmental Coordinator Michelle Schaefer at UCSF Campus Planning, Box 0286, San Francisco, CA 94143-0286 or [email protected]. Comments must be received by 5 p.m. on May 23, 2008.
UCSF plans to build an integrated hospital complex to serve children, women and cancer patients on a 14.5-acre parcel south of UCSF's existing 43-acre biomedical campus at Mission Bay.
The project site is bounded by 16th, 3rd and Mariposa streets and the future extension of Owens Street. The new medical center will allow UCSF to increase inpatient and outpatient capacity to meet growing patient demand, address old and outdated facilities at its Parnassus and Mount Zion campuses, and comply with state-mandated earthquake safety standards for hospitals.

- • A 183-bed children's hospital with urgent/emergency care, pediatric primary care and specialty outpatient facilities;
- • A 70-bed adult hospital for cancer and women's specialty patients;
- • A women's hospital for cancer care and specialty surgery, a 36-bed birth center and select outpatient services; and
- • An energy center, helipad, parking and support services.
