Mount Zion Invites Community to Health Fair on March 13

The Mount Zion Health Information Alliance and UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion present, Your Health Matters, an information and resource fair. The event takes place on Thursday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mount Zion cafeteria, located on the lower level of 1600 Divisadero St., San Francisco. The event is open to the public. Information will be available on the following topics: finding health and medical information, cancer support services for families and friends, integrative medicine, options for decisionmaking, cardiovascular services for Asian Americans, and using arts can to heal one's spirit. Representatives from UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health, the Fishbon Memorial Library, UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine will be available to answer questions.

"This is an opportunity for people to learn about our health information resources," said Gail Sorrough, director of medical library services at Mount Zion. "It's designed for health professionals, patients and community visitors to Mount Zion." Andrew Ko, MD, assistant clinical professor, UCSF Division of Hematology/Oncology and clinician at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, will be on hand to talk about his new book, Everyone's Guide to Cancer Therapy: How Cancer is Diagnosed, Treated and Managed Day to Day, co-authored by Ko and professor emeritus Ernie Rosenbaum, MD, and Malin Dollinger, MD. Now in its fifth edition, the book explains what is currently known about the early detection of cancer, how a malignancy develops, how and why the correct stage of the cancer is determined, and how each tumor is best treated. The book also explains the basis for many of the tests cancer patients must undergo and what to expect from the various forms of therapy. "This comprehensive, user-friendly book is intended for a wide audience, whether, you're a patient, family member or health care provider, said Ko. "Not only does it include details about each specific cancer type, but there's plenty of useful and updated information covering all aspects of cancer care."
