NCIRE Board of Directors announces changes

(San Francisco) At its annual meeting on November 13, 2007, the Board of Directors of the Northern California Institute for Research and Education (NCIRE) announced the departure of three members and the appointment of three members.

The outgoing members, who had completed their terms of service, are Renee Binder, MD, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor in Residence of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF); Paul M. Sullam, MD, Staff Physician at the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC) and Professor of Medicine at UCSF; and Mary A. Whooley, MD, Staff Physician at UCSF and Associate Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics at UCSF.

Joining the Board are George H. Caughey, MD, Staff Physician and Chief of Pulmonary/Critical Care at SFVAMC and Professor of Medicine at UCSF; Neal Cohen, MD, MPH, MS, Professor of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UCSF and Vice Dean of the UCSF School of Medicine; and Kristine Yaffe, MD, Staff Physician and Chief of Geriatric Psychiatry at SFVAMC and Professor of Psychiatry, Neurology, and Epidemiology at UCSF.

Swanson, MD, Staff Physician and Chief of Neurology and Rehabilitation Service at SFVAMC and Professor and Vice Chair of Neurology at UCSF. “I would also like to welcome Drs. Caughey, Cohen, and Yaffe, and look forward to working with them.”

NCIRE - the Veterans Health Research Institute - is the largest research institute associated with a VA medical center. Its mission is to improve the health and well-being of veterans and the general public by supporting a world-class biomedical research program conducted by the UCSF faculty at SFVAMC.
