Pediatric Diabetes Specialist Gitelman Speaks to BBC
In Type 1 Diabetes - the kind that usually starts in childhood - the body can't produce any insulin, which is necessary for the conversion of sugar and other foods into energy.
Health Check's Molly Bentley met with UCSF pediatric diabetes specialist Stephen E. Gitelman, MD, and his patient, Meghan Runyon, for a discussion about living with Type 1 diabetes. Gitelman is professor of clinical pediatrics at UCSF, director of the Pediatric Diabetes Program at UCSF Children's Hospital, and associate director of the Diabetes Education and Research Center at UCSF Medical Center.
Note: The story will only be available on the BBC Health Check site through Sunday, Nov. 4, although the podcast should continue to be available indefinitely at the direct URL below. The Gitelman segment begins approximately 16:45 into the program.
