Catherine Wittenberg
Catherine Wittenberg, who retired as chief nursing officer of UCSF Medical Center in June, will be the honoree at a retirement gala on Thursday, Sept. 6.
The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. at San Francisco's Miyako Hotel, which will soon be called Hotel Kabuki.
The event will benefit the Nursing Excellence Fund, which was established to help the medical center meet new challenges and to continue its ongoing commitment to excellence in nursing and patient care. Contributions in honor of Wittenberg will be used to support the fund by assisting the medical center's elderly patients.
During her 20-plus-year career at UCSF, Wittenberg, RN, CNM, MS, served as a floor nurse, managed the perinatal unit, and had responsibility for all critical care and acute care units and the Emergency Department.
In addition, she served in a variety of management positions, including assistant director of nursing. Wittenberg was appointed as chief nursing officer after longtime nurse administrator Jane Hirsch retired in April 2003.
The mission of the Hospitals Auxiliary at UCSF is to advance the well-being of patients and their families by raising funds for amenities and to further the development of the public's understanding of UCSF Medical Center.
