The American Society of Transplantation (AST) recently announced that Flavio Vincenti, MD, a professor of clinical medicine at UCSF, is the president for 2007-2008.
Vincenti assumed his responsibilities at the American Transplant Congress in San Francisco. The meeting, which was held in May, marked the celebration of the society's 25th anniversary.
A kidney and pancreas transplant specialist, Vicenti came to UCSF Medical Center in 1975 for a transplant nephrology fellowship and was appointed a member of the kidney transplant team.
Vincenti previously served the AST as development committee chair, councilor-at-large, secretary-treasurer, and president-elect.
"I look forward to taking on the role of president of the American Society of Transplantation and anticipate an exciting and productive year," Vincenti said.
The American Society of Transplantation is an international organization of transplant professionals who are dedicated to research, education, advocacy and patient care in transplant science and medicine. The society comprises more than 2,700 transplant physicians, surgeons, scientists and allied health professionals. Established in 1982, AST is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
