ZERO TO THREE Elects Lieberman President
Alicia F. Lieberman, PhD, has been elected president of the leading national nonprofit organization known as ZERO TO THREE.
Lieberman holds the Irving B. Harris Endowed Chair in Infant Mental Health at UCSF's Department of Psychiatry, where she is a professor and vice chair for academic affairs. Lieberman directs the Child Trauma Research Project at San Francisco General Hospital. She has made major contributions to the infant and child development field in its understanding of attachment, toddler development, early trauma and cross-cultural perspectives on early development through her research, publications, training and consultation to national and international organizations.
"Alicia Lieberman is a brilliant leader and champion on behalf of our nation's babies and toddlers," said Matthew E. Melmed, JD, executive director of ZERO TO THREE. "Alicia's creativity, skills and passion will continue to help ZERO TO THREE to make the well-being of babies an important focus of our country."
Lieberman assumes her three-year term to help develop and implement key strategic directions for the organization that will enable it to respond most effectively to the broad needs of babies, toddlers and families.
She is a renowned author and has published numerous books, including: Don't Hit My Mommy: A Manual for Child-Parent Psychotherapy with Young Witnesses of Family Violence and Losing a Parent to Death in the Early Years: Guidelines for the Treatment of Traumatic Bereavement in Infancy and Early Childhood. Lieberman's book, The Emotional Life of the Toddler, translated into several languages, has been hailed as a classic and has helped countless parents understand and foster their children's development in the earliest years. Her current research focuses on developing effective treatment approaches to early trauma, with specific focus on underserved, low-income, and minority children and their families.
ZERO TO THREE is a national nonprofit founded nearly 30 years ago to support the healthy development and well-being of infants, toddlers and their families.
