UCSF Physical Therapy "Health and Wellness Center"
A new Health and Wellness Center opens Monday, April 2, 2007 with support from the UCSF campus and the community. In the beautiful setting of Bakar Fitness Center, many different wellness programs will be offered. Physical therapy faculty will provide physical therapy education and consultation services as well as injury screening.
In addition, a wide variety of classes will be offered translating current science into practice. Training classes range from brain fitness for memory and learning to neuro-fit classes for maintaining independence and quality of life for clients with chronic impairments resulting from disease or injury. Prevention and self-treatment classes for neck, shoulder, arm/hand, low back, hip/knee and ankle problems also will be offered. Class instructions and ergonomic practice for stress reduction, safe biomechanics for computer use and musical performance will also be available. Clients can participate in posture classes, stand tall classes to decrease osteoporosis and balance classes to reduce fall risks. These classes will be offered in the pool, in the gym or in one of the studios. Equipment for bodyweight-supported treadmill training is available.
Drop-in clinics most Friday evenings from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. offer an opportunity to speak with a physical therapist for free. Classes and other consultations are offered on a fee-for-service basis. Insurance will not be billed.
Please visit during the Open House, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, April 2, or during regular business hours Monday through Wednesday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Center is located on the first floor of the Bakar Fitness and Recreation Center, Mission Bay Campus, 1675 Owens Street, San Francisco.
