## Background:

This two-day international symposium held at the UCSF Mission Bay campus is believed to be the first to address and focus on active surveillance management and research for early stage prostate cancer.


The time is optimal for such a multidisciplinary symposium given recent advances in early detection, risk assessment, biomarker technology and novel preventative agents, according to Peter Carroll, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Urology at UCSF. 


Representative disciplines include urology, oncology, pathology, genetics, clinical research, nutrition science, and epidemiology, as well as patient advocates.
