WIRED SCIENCE: Stem Cell Explorer

On the pilot episode of the PBS series WIRED SCIENCE airing Wednesday, January 3, 2007, host Brian Unger interviews leading stem cell researcher Renee Reijo Pera, PhD, co-director of the UCSF Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research Center and associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences. In 2004, California voters approved an initiative to allocate $3.5 billion over ten years to potentially life-saving stem cell research. The WIRED SCIENCE segment profiles a pioneering California scientist in one of the most promising but controversial areas of research. WIRED SCIENCE is a new science program that translates WIRED Magazine's journalism into a fast-paced television show. A co-production of KCET/Los Angeles, the West Coast flagship station of PBS, and WIRED Magazine, WIRED SCIENCE brings the magazine's cutting edge vision, stylish design, and irreverent attitude to the screen with breakout ideas, recent discoveries, and the latest innovations.
