Police Report Recent Burglaries on Parnassus Heights
Over the holiday period, the Parnassus Heights campus experienced several burglaries of a similar nature that impacted offices in the Medical Sciences Building and the School of Nursing. Extensive damage was done to walls, windows, and doors as a means to gain access to office areas. Once inside, specific computers were taken while other visible electronic devices sometimes were left undisturbed. In one case, files were reported to have been rifled through.
A determined burglar will employ extraordinary means to gain access to a desired location. While we can't prevent all such intrusions, the UCSF Police Department encourages staff, faculty, and students to utilize all available precautions to safeguard personal and University equipment and work products. Laptop computers should be stored when possible in locked drawers or cabinets and desktop computers should be secured with lock-down cables. Office spaces should be secured when exiting and no valuables left unattended, even briefly.
These burglaries are being actively investigated by the UCSF Police Department and extra patrols are being carried out. As always, we need your help to keep UCSF a safe and secure environment. If you have any information regarding these incidents, please call UCSF PD Investigations at 476-6890.
