Richard Feachem Honored as Knight Commander for Contributions to Global Health
Dear Colleagues:
Please join us in congratulating Sir Richard Feachem who has been honored by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire on the New Year Honours List for 2007 for his pre-eminent contributions to global health. Knight Commander ranks among the highest distinctions that Britain can bestow upon its citizens.
Sir Richard George Andrew Feachem, KBE, PhD, DSci(Med), FREng was born in Manchester, UK in 1947. He is Professor of International Health at the UCSF School of Medicine and the UC Berkeley School of Public Health and was the founding Director of UCSF's Institute for Global Health.
Dr. Feachem's contributions, both at UCSF and at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, have had a significant impact on health worldwide. He is most deserving of this extraordinary honor. We look forward to his return to our faculty later this year, after he completes his tenure as Executive Director of the Global Fund.
