UCSF Medical Center Named Among Top Hospitals for Quality

UCSF Medical Center was one of eight California acute care hospitals among the top 50 U.S. hospitals named by the Washington, D.C.-based Leapfrog Group, a coalition of large employers that works to leverage employer purchasing power to promote high quality health care. CEO Mark Laret said the recognition by Leapfrog is a tribute to the doctors and staff members who are working to make UCSF Medical Center the safest, highest quality health care provider but added that the organization still more work to do. In addition to this designation, the medical center last year received a quality award from Leapfrog for outstanding quality performance. Ernie Ring, MD, chief medical officer, said the top hospitals list is more evidence of the progress the medical center is making to implement procedures and systems to ensure patients receive the best possible medical care. Hospitals were named after participating in voluntary surveys covering 30 areas of safe practices. More than 1,200 hospitals participated in the surveys, which led to the top 50 list, the first of its kind by Leapfrog.
