Campus Celebrates National Work and Family Month

The UCSF Work~Life Resource Center is among the groups collaborating to bring the campus community events and activities to commemorate National Work and Family Month in October. The first workshop "Flexibility Works" will be presented at noon today (Oct. 3) in Laurel Heights, room 308, where Linda Marks, director of training at the UC Hastings College of Law, will present the benefits of offering employees flexible work schedules. National Work and Family Month was enacted through the US Senate and the National Work-Life Initiative passed in 2003 to build awareness about the importance of work-life balance. The UCSF Work~Life Resource Center promotes work and personal life-related programs, policies and services for faculty, staff, and students in a supportive work environment, including the integration of work-life programs to serve the UCSF community. In recognition of the importance of work-life balance, various events and presentations have been scheduled throughout October and include topics on caring for loved ones, health and wellness, family matters, leadership, and safety. Highlights of the month-long series of events include:
  • National Coming Out Day: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Resources host this noontime event on Wednesday, Oct. 11in Saunders Court.
  • Elder Care: Donna Schempp, LCSW, presents "Elder Care: Starting Your Care-giving Journey," noon, Wednesday, Oct. 18, School of Nursing, room N 225.
