Newsweek's "Twenty Top Women on Leadership" Profiles UCSF Researcher

The September 25 issue of Newsweek features as its cover story "Twenty Top Women on Leadership." One of the women profiled is Renee Reijo Pera, PhD, who notes, "I consider myself a human reproductive biologist. Currently, I supervise 16 researchers at UCSF investigating the genetic causes of human infertility. We are looking at how to get a human stem cell to become a germ cell, a sperm or an egg. Nothing is more important to me than the origin of life. This subject matters to me so much. I see infertility as a major health problem, not a minor inconvenience. It greatly impacts a couple's entire quality of life." Reijo Pera also participated as a guest on the magazine's affiliated audio discussion on women and leadership. Reijo Pera is associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, the Department of Physiology, and the Department of Urology; associate director at the Center for Reproductive Sciences; and co-director, Program in Human Stem Cell Biology; all at the University of California, San Francisco.
