On Morning Edition, UCSF Pharmacy Professor Notes Importance of Knowing Your Cholesterol Level

Consumerlab.com reports that popular supplements aimed at lowering cholesterol, like fish oil, garlic and guggulsterone, may not measure up to their labels or marketing claims. Candy Tsourounis, Pharm.D., associate professor of clinical pharmacy in the School of Pharmacy at the University of California, San Francisco, tells NPR's Allison Aubrey that knowing your starting cholesterol is a good way to determine which supplement will be effective in getting cholesterol down to a recommended target that would reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.
