Janina Morrison
Janina Morrison, a third-year medical student at UCSF, has been awarded a Fulbright US Student scholarship to South Africa in Public Health.
Morrison is one of more than 1,200 US citizens who will travel abroad for the 2006-2007 academic year through the Fulbright Student Program.
In related news, the UCSF Graduate Division will host a Fulbright Forum Open House for all interested applicants for the 2007-2008 year. The forum will be held Monday, Sept. 11, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Millberry Union City Lights room on the Parnassus campus. Light refreshments will be provided. This open house will address the application process and provide insight from previous Fulbright scholars. Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the program's purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the rest of the world.
The Fulbright Program, America's flagship international educational exchange program, is sponsored by the United States Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Since its inception, the Fulbright Program has exchanged about 273,500 people, including 102,900 Americans who have studied, taught or researched abroad and 170,600 students, scholars and teachers from other countries who have engaged in similar activities in the United States. The program operates in more than 150 countries worldwide.
