Family In Race For Cure of Hurler's Syndrome
An East Bay family is turning its personal tragedy into a campaign to save others from the same fate. Their six-year-old child, Keivan Rose, is struggling with a rare genetic enzyme disorder called Hurler's syndrome that could take his life.
Dr. Morton Cowan and Dr. Mohammad Diab of UCSF Medical Center discuss the ongoing procedures Kian must undergo, such as back surgery every six months so that his organs have room to grow, as well as the family's struggles with the illness and admirable efforts to raise awareness and funding for a cure for Hurler's syndrome.
