Improving Nutrition Begins With Small Steps
On Thursday, July 13, KQED-FM's Forum with Michael Krasny discussed supermarket grocery pricing, availability and quality. Toby Morris, a registered dietitian at UCSF Medical Center who does outpatient nutrition counseling in disadvantaged neighborhoods, tells host Michael Krasny that improving nutrition can start with small steps.
Morris said malnutrition in lower-income areas in the United States is not caused by lack of availability of healthy foods, but rather is a result of people in those areas seeking out cheaper, higher-calorie foods, rather than produce and other nutrient-rich items.
