Academic Affairs Launches Faculty-Focused Website

UCSF Academic Affairs is pleased to announce a new faculty-focused website. This website includes information which formerly appeared on the Academic Personnel website, as well as new information relevant to faculty. The website offers a variety of resources for researchers, educators, clinicians, leaders and academic personnel. Topics range from appointments and advancement to a special section of urgent issues, such as the whistleblower policy and suicide prevention. The new website is another way in which UCSF is responding to findings from a faculty work-life survey conducted during the fall of 2001. See story on findings. Findings from that survey revealed that the welcoming that faculty members receive after arriving at UCSF can influence their professional experience at the University for many years. Survey respondents voiced a need for greater access to helpful resources and a need to be better informed of what is available to assist them in their professional and personal lives. After analyzing the findings from this faculty survey, the Chancellor's Task Force on Faculty Life issued a report with 10 principal recommendations, including a number of specific recommendations that might better inform newly arrived faculty about campus life and policies. The Chancellor's Council on Faculty Life (CCFL) was subsequently created to implement the recommendations, including developing a website that would contain necessary information or links to such information for new faculty. Faculty members of the CCFL have been influential in the design of the new website. The website design goals included:
  • Creating a welcoming and user-friendly site that enables UCSF to recruit, develop and retain excellent faculty in all core mission areas.
  • Allowing future growth in web-based applications.
  • Providing easy access to relevant information, including links to websites already in existence.
"Our goal is simple: to be the website of choice for faculty," says Associate Vice Chancellor Sally Marshall, PhD. The Office of Academic Affairs welcomes comments and suggestions, so that it can continue to improve the website and achieve its goal. A link to a feedback form for comments is located at the bottom the website.
