By Lisa Cisneros

by Lisa Cisneros Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to celebrate Earth Fest on Thursday, May 18, in the Millberry Union gym at the UCSF Parnassus campus. Earth festival activities will be held in conjunction with Bike to Work Day. In fact, those who ride their bike to the Parnassus campus on May 18 will receive a free lunch. One of the largest events of its kind, the Earth Fest is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Millberry Gym. The fair will include free raffle tickets for prizes including a bike, chocolates, eco-gifts and running shoes. The event also includes free organic tastings and a $3 lunch. Participants will be able to learn about a green lifestyle from more than 50 organizations and companies, who will offer expertise on paper and cleaning products, water, organic food, computer and electronic recycling, and energy, and a lot more. Among those representing green building at the fair will be the Green Fusion Design Center, a unique retail store, gallery and education center featuring green building materials and natural home furnishings for creating healthier environments, both commercial and residential. The information tables will include staff from 15 different companies, from Adina Beverages to Rainbow Grocery, an independent, collectively run store that offers organic and sustainably harvested food. In addition, participants will be able to purchase eco-friendly gifts from Baksheesh, Green Home and World of Good, among others. UCSF representatives include those from Campus Life Services, Environmental Health & Safety, Outdoors Unlimited, the UCSF Sustainability Committee, Capital Projects and Facilities Management, and the Recycling Program.
