Campus Seeks Input on Strategic Planning Process

UCSF is seeking input on the campus Strategic Planning Initiative, which is well underway. The campuswide goals are twofold: first, to develop a comprehensive, integrated strategic plan based on academic priorities; and second, to collaboratively engage the UCSF community in the process. "With this vision in mind, your involvement in this pivotal planning for UCSF's future is vital," says Executive Vice Chancellor Eugene Washington, MD, and Elizabeth Blackburn, PhD, co-chairs of the Strategic Planning Board. "UCSF's future, and priorities for the next 20 years, will be dictated by this project," they wrote in an email letter sent to the campus community on May 1. "For us to be optimally successful, we must draw on our community's rich intellect, broad experience and diverse perspectives. Moreover, the plan will be successful only to the degree that it reflects the collective and creative thinking of our entire community." The Strategic Planning Board organized to oversee this endeavor has been busy advancing initial objectives. An external consultant group, AMC Strategies, has been selected to help UCSF's strategic planning process. In addition, the campus has held a series of focus groups and interview sessions with a representative cross-section of our campus. Recently, a comprehensive data collection and environmental assessment process began. The key outcomes of this work will be shared with the UCSF community late this summer, campus officials say. In May and June, the campus will host a series of town hall meetings and an online survey to provide opportunities to obtain input from faculty, staff and students into UCSF's Strategic Planning Initiative. The campus community is encouraged to visit a new strategic planning website now and to return to the website in the coming months for updates about the strategic planning process.
