Dental School to Offer Periodontal Medicine Course
The UCSF School of Dentistry will host its first Periodontal Medicine Symposium on Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20.
This continuing education course is appropriate for faculty in the schools of medicine and nursing, as well.
The UCSF School of Dentistry Periodontal Medicine Symposium will be held at the Laurel Heights Conference Center. Full-time UCSF faculty can receive a discounted price, or $175 (half off full price). School of Dentistry faculty need only pay $90 to attend.
This exciting day-and-a-half program, titled "Scientific Frontiers in Periodontal Medicine: Implications for Clinical Practice," features two of the leading researchers in the field: Steven Offenbacher, DDS, PhD, MMSc, and James Beck, PhD.
This presentation will include a look at the relationship between periodontal disease and premature low birth weight. The speakers recently participated in a joint American Medical Association and American Dental Association media briefing on "Oral and Systemic Health: Exploring the Connection," where they discussed their research findings that indicate periodontal disease progression during pregnancy contributes to preterm deliveries.
