Campus officials showed their appreciation to staff members at UCSF's fourth annual milestone service recognition event "Celebrating Service!" on April 13.
The morale-boosting event is among efforts by the University to recognize the hard work of staff. The milestone event was created by campus leaders in response to feedback from the 2001 employee opinion survey when respondents indicated that rewards and recognition were important to them and thought the campus could improve in this area.
In fact, the third campuswide staff survey is now underway and the deadline for completion has been extended through the end of April. Read more about the third campuswide employee survey
here.
UCSF Medical Center is also hosting a number of staff appreciation events, including the Fifth Annual Medical Center Honors and Awards Celebration on Friday, May 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Cole Hall. For all medical center staff appreciation events, see this
flyer (PDF).
The April 13 recognition program opened with Chancellor Mike Bishop thanking staff for their personal contributions and years of service to UCSF.

Several employees received special applause for achieving 35 years of UCSF service last year. They included Helen Birkeland from School of Nursing Dean's Office, Mary Caston from accounting, Guadalupe Gonzales of Mailing and Addressing Services, Karen Newhouse from the office of Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity, Barbra Richardson from School of Dentistry Dean's Office, and Mitzi Rossi from the Department of Psychiatry at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH). Long-time employees who were unable to attend the invitation-only event were Jeffrey Harrison from Clinical Labs at SFGH, Ronald Hopkins from Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute (LPPI), and Charles Lintini from dental clinics.
The mid-afternoon event featured a beautifully catered reception, live music and a walk down memory lane of UCSF highlights and world events dating from the milestone years.
Daniel Dominguez-Moncada, manager of staff in Human Resources, part of Employee Services at LPPI, gave the event a rave review. "I wanted to congratulate you and your team for organizing a fantastic event on April 13. Great attendance and the energy in the room tell me the employees truly felt appreciated."
Formal invitations to the event were mailed to more than 430 career campus employees, who achieved in 2005 their 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th and 40th year of service with UCSF.
The milestone event does not replace departmental efforts to recognize individual contributions, but is intended as a supplement to valuable school and departmental reward and recognition efforts and as a wonderful opportunity to gather and recognize collectively individuals, who have achieved the designated significant UCSF service milestones. Additional reward and recognition ideas can be found
here.
The next service milestone event will be held next spring (to recognize those who achieve the service milestones in calendar year 2006) and be timed to coincide with employee appreciation week activities.
