"Taste for the Cure" breast cancer fundraiser October 15 - 23

Women with breast cancer will reap the benefits when the UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center presents “Taste for the Cure” during the week of October 15-23.
Proceeds from this annual fundraiser will go to the Center to support educational and informational services for women diagnosed with breast cancer.

“Unfortunately, every part of our community is touched by breast cancer. Through a new partnership with the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, we are reaching out this year to a broader community with ‘Taste for the Cure,’” says Laura Esserman, MD, MBA, director of the Center.

For the first time, restaurants in San Francisco are participating in the event. During the one-week fundraising period, 23 restaurants will match diners’ donations. Diners who want to patronize these restaurants should look for the green and pink “Taste for the Cure” posters in their windows. A complete list of participating restaurants is online at http://www.ucsf.edu/coe/.

This year’s event also features educational forums that are designed to offer empowerment and hope for the 3,000 Bay Area women who are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, according to Esserman.

On Saturday, October 15, UCSF faculty members will discuss “Coping with Breast Cancer” and “The Latest in Targeted Therapies” at a session on the UCSF Mission Bay campus.

On Sunday, October 23, a UCSF panel will address “Who Should be Thinking about Prevention” and “A Word on Navigating Choices” at an event at the Mill Valley Recreation Center in Marin County.

Advance tickets to the educational forums are $25 and are purchased by calling 415 353-7481. Tickets at the door will be $35.

“The patients and the staff of the Breast Care Center continue to be touched by the community’s generosity,” says Esserman. “‘Taste for the Cure’ helps our patients and their families learn more about the disease and cope with its ramifications.”
A part of UCSF Medical Center and the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center is a multidisciplinary medical practice, specifically designed to provide women with specialized breast health services.
