New Women's Health Series Begins

"Women's Health Today," a monthly, lunch-hour series of talks given on Wednesdays by UCSF faculty on contemporary topics begins October 26. Sponsored by the UCSF Center for Gender Equity and the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health, the talks will be webcast and broadcast live by University of California Television (UCTV). The talks are presented from noon to 1 p.m. Pacific Time, unless otherwise noted. Audience members, both online and in person, are invited to submit questions to speakers. Online questions during the show should be emailed to [email protected]. Viewers can watch this program from their computer and interact with the speaker live. Access the live streaming video of the talks here. Archived versions of the webcasts also will available about three months after each show airs. The series begins on Wednesday, Oct. 26 with a special bilingual program to be presented in Health Sciences West (HSW), room 302 on the UCSF Parnassus campus. The English version will be presented from noon to 1 p.m. The topic is titled, "Saving Our Children: The Impact of Domestic Violence." Speakers are Miriam Martinez, PhD, Elida M. Bautista, PhD, Margaret McNamara, MD and Chandra Ghosh Ippen, PhD. The Spanish version will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. in HSW 301. The title in Spanish is "Salvando Nuestros Niños - El impacto de la Violencia Domestica." The locations of the rest of the talks have yet to be confirmed. Fujimoto, MD March 22: "The Teen Girl Brain: Insights Into What Makes Us Women," presented by Louann Brizendine, MD April 26: "Integrative Medicine: Can We Truly Integrate Care?," presented by Beverly Burns, MS, LAc May 24: "The Romance of Risk: Why Teenagers Do The Things They Do?," presented by Lynn Ponton, MD June 28: "Breast Cancer: Are We Winning the Battle? An Update on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer," presented by Cheryl Ewing, MD. These talks also will be replayed on UCTV and archived on its website. Or browse the broadcast schedule.
